Residential Construction Electrical Inspection Checklist
General
- Permit and approved plans available on-site
- Electrical service size and location verified
- All work performed in accordance with applicable codes
Rough-In Inspection
- Proper wiring methods used (NM, conduit, etc.)
- Cable and conduit are secured and supported
- Boxes are properly installed, accessible, and sized
- Grounding and bonding paths provided
- GFCI and AFCI protection as required
- Wires not subject to physical damage
- Nail plates installed where needed
Service Equipment
- Service panel installed and accessible
- Panel is labeled
- Main grounding electrode conductor installed
- Proper panel clearances maintained
- Drip loops and service entrance conductors installed correctly
Devices & Fixtures
- Switches and receptacles securely mounted
- Receptacle spacing (including kitchen, bathrooms, and exterior)
- Lighting outlets installed as required
- Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms wired properly
- Bathroom and laundry receptacles GFCI protected
Final Inspection
- Panels covered and circuits labeled
- Devices and plates installed
- No exposed conductors or open boxes
- Fixture operation tested
- Required clearances and access maintained
- Corrections from previous inspections completed
