Home Energy Efficiency Audit Checklist

1. Building Envelope

• Check for air leaks around doors and windows
• Inspect weatherstripping and thresholds
• Examine insulation in attic and walls
• Review exterior caulking and seals

2. Heating & Cooling Systems

• Inspect HVAC filters and replace if needed
• Check ductwork for leaks or disconnections
• Evaluate programmable thermostat usage
• Assess age and condition of furnace/AC units

3. Water Heating

• Check water heater temperature setting
• Inspect for water leaks or corrosion
• Evaluate water heater insulation
• Check efficiency of showerheads and faucets

4. Lighting

• Replace incandescent bulbs with energy-efficient bulbs
• Assess use of natural lighting
• Check for unnecessary light usage

5. Appliances & Electronics

• Check age and efficiency ratings of major appliances
• Look for excessive standby power (“phantom load”)
• Unplug unused electronics
